First of all, apologies for not following the chronological order in these posts, but we write as we feel like here, and now we felt like informing you about the dangers of modifications on your car when it comes to cost of car insurance.

Our friends at TheComparisons.com was kind enough to share a bit of information with us regarding potential impact of modified cars and the cost of car insurance. Here are the top ten most costly modifications:

1. Engine chip - 50%
2. Dump valve - 25%
3.  Pick up/cabriolet conversion - 25%
4. Body kit - 15%
5. Racing seats - 10%
6. Back box (exhaust modification) - 10%
7. Lowered suspension - 10%
8. Alloy/wider wheels - 10%
9. Go-faster stripes - 5%
10. Rear spoiler - 5%

In addition there are the modifications that will most likely be unacceptable for most car insurance companies, such as turbo charging and nitrous oxide (nitro booster).

Not all of these modifications makes sense as far as increasing the cost of car insurance, but again i guess the car insurance companies will use any excuse to get a little bit extra out of the clients (you). Perhaps there is a conspiracy here where the goverment wants to make us all the same, which equals boring!

Rule 4 - Be plain and boring when it comes to chosing your car. No modification or personalization (boring we know!)

It is important however that if you have any modifications that you don’t try and arrange your car insurance without telling the insurance company about the modifications. If you do that and you get in an accident or have to make a claim, it could result in complications and delays, and in worst case that your car insurance won’t cover your claim.
